Beyond the obvious advantage of being better able to defend oneself, studying Martial Arts at the IKS brings benefits to many areas of life:
Physical Conditioning:The training involves stretching and a range of mild to strenuous exercises which improves physical conditioning and stamina. It’s not the same as working out at the gym, but performed correctly and faithfully it will extend your range of motion and help keep you limber and physically fit.
Traditional Philosophy:Students of the IKS are exposed to a traditional martial arts philosophy as a matter of course. Students at the school learn this philosophy not simply as a token gesture, but as a fundamental aspect of the curriculum. This philosophy helps our students and instructors not only in the school, but in their everyday lives.
Work Ethic:IKS students train for many hours to achieve specific skills or techniques in the dojo, and progressing from one belt rank to the next may take many hundreds of hours of dedication. This process of setting goals, then using dedication and hard work to achieve them will carry over into higher achievements in school or at the office.
Self-Confidence:Knowing that you can rely on your training to find strength in an emergency, courage in a crisis, serenity in a storm, will enable you to handle yourself in almost any situation. People who are self-confident make poor targets. The true measure of our students is not how well they perform in the dojo or how many trophies the win in tournaments, but how they behave outside the dojo as sons and daughters, mothers and fathers, friends, citizens and employees.
