Erica Giovinazzo joined the IKS in 1989. Many years of hard training brought her to the level of Shodan in 1992. She is a student of many trades outside of karate. These include piano, fencing, acting, languages, and yoga. She has used these experiences to better herself and help those she teaches at the school. In 1994 she earned the mantle of uchi-daeshi along with Shihan Marsh. A few years later in 1997, she received her Godan rank. Throughout her tenure she has been a successful competitor and an even better instructor. She has been a motivating leader for instruction with the bo (staff) as well as a chief instructor for the girl’s class. Erica graduated from UNH in 2000 with two degrees; one in Theater, the other in Plant Biology, and a minor in Italian. Even though she now lives in New York City and travels the world, she finds the time to make the trek to the school and teach students and black belts. |
