I am now a 19-year-old freshman in college, and for more than three years I studied at the Independent Karate School. Having to miss IKS classes was one of the hardest things about leaving for school. I would not trade my experiences there for anything. I learned more from my time there than I could possibly articulate in a short statement. I’m not just talking about the self-defense skills that I acquired, but the attitude and discipline that inherently comes with proper martial arts instruction. Suffice it to say that Independent Karate had a huge part in making me into the person I am today. It was such a positive and caring environment that I would recommend it to anyone. If you are looking to start or continue in the martial arts, I feel confident in saying that you need look no further than IKS. Additionally, the material taught at IKS is an ideal blend of styles. The coupling of a striking art (Kenpo) and a technical art (Jiu-Jitsu) is a brilliant move that gives IKS students a well-rounded knowledge-base unparalleled by what’s offered at other schools. On top of the positive environment and the broad and practical material, the students and staff of IKS as friendly as they come. I never once felt uncomfortable in all of my time there, everybody was just so nice. Take my advice and at least check out the school. If you’re anything like me, it won’t take you more than one class to want to become a regular student. I’ll see you this summer!
